Alumna Unanimously Named to Federal Judgeship

Siena College alumna Mae D’Agostino ’77, Esq. has been named the United States District Judge for the Northern District of New York.

D’Agostino was nominated for appointment to the federal bench by President Barack Obama. The United States Senate unanimously approved Obama’s nomination by a vote of 88 to 0. D’Agostino will be the only woman on the bench in all of upstate New York. She is also the first woman to sit on a federal bench in Albany.

"It is a great moment for one of our graduates," said Siena College President Fr. Kevin Mullen '75, O.F.M., Ph.D. "Siena joins Mae's family, friends and colleagues in congratulating her. We are proud of Mae. It will be a privilege to call her 'your honor'."

D’Agostino graduated magna cum laude from Siena and graduated from Syracuse University College of Law, receiving her juris doctor degree in 1980.

"I consider myself to be most personally fortunate to have been Mae's advisor, mentor,and professor when she was an undergraduate student at Siena College," said Pre-Law Advisor and Professor of Political Science Len Cutler, Ph.D. "I learned from her as she was learning from me. She is truly an exceptional role model for our students and she is a dedicated mentor for our Pre-law program. Most importantly Mae is my lifelong friend and for that I consider myself blessed."

D’Agostino is an award-winning lawyer and partner at D’Agostino, Krackeler, Maguire & Cardona P.C. The firm specializes in areas include medical malpractice, healthcare, negligence, personal injury and discrimination.
