College Maintains AACSB Accreditation

The Siena College School of Business has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
“I am proud that the AACSB has recognized Siena College among the world leaders in business education,” said Fr. Kevin Mullen ’75, O.F.M., Ph.D., Siena College president. “This distinction reinforces my belief that our business faculty continue to produce skilled, ethical, community-minded business leaders.”
AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than five percent of the world’s business programs. Today, there are more than 650 business schools in 45 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 178 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs.
“The significance of this accreditation for Siena reflects the academic excellence of our programs and the commitment of the business faculty to our students,” said Linda Richardson, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs. “Siena College’s Strategic Plan calls for the promotion of student engagement and innovative learning, which are being recognized by this prestigious designation.”
“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”
Siena College’s School of Business offers degrees in accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing along with minor and certificate options. Siena College also offers a Master of Science degree in accounting. The College’s strong alumni base in the Capital Region and beyond allows for networking and internship opportunities that put Siena students on the path toward career success. Students in Siena’s School of Business are able to access state-of-the-art facilities, including the Hickey Financial Technology Center, which houses the Alonge Accounting Lab and the Raub Market Trading Room. These opportunities, combined with the College’s liberal arts and business core curriculum, prepare students for careers, not simply their first jobs.
“Our successful maintenance of accreditation is the result of the tireless efforts and commitment of many individuals,” said Jeffrey Mello, Ph.D., school of business dean. “The Peer Review Team commended us on our incorporation of Franciscan values into our curricula and programming, our assessment of learning outcomes program, the close interaction between faculty and students, initiatives such as the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and our strong, involved alumni network.”
