Women of Wisdom Volunteer Program

The Women of Wisdom Volunteer Program (WOW) is the first student run program to join The St. Clare Leadership Series: Ours to Do- Women Leading the Way.  Envoking the mission of the Sr. Thea Bowman Center for Women, to empower female students, WOW gives students an opportunity to volunteer in the community. The mission is to to help Siena College women recognize and explore their potential as role models for at-risk female youth in surrounding communities.

WOW currently partners with  Hope 7, Brighter Choice Charter Middle School for Girls and Mary's Corner. At Girl's Inc, Hope 7 and Brighter Choice, volunteers  work to provide alternative after school activites for at-risk female youth in Albany and Troy.  Volunteers at Mary's Corner in Cohoes assist the Ladies of Charity in supplying free baby supplies for families. WOW is always looking for new partnerships based on the the interest of its members.

Students are asked to commit two hours per week to consistantly volunteer at their chosen organization.

All WOW are trained by the Albany Addiction Care Center to facilitate the NYS accreditied 8 week curriculum, Grow Girl ©.

In addition to volunteering, students are asked to attend a bi-weekly meetings. During meetings, students share experiences and stories. Also, new volunteer opportunities and needs for trainings are assessed.

Transportation to sites is provided to students through carpools.

WOW is a great opportunity for any student who has a passion for service and wants to see a change in the community!
