G.O.L.D. Scholar Kara Rager 14

Kara Rager ’14

GOLD Scholar 2013-2014

Choosing Siena was easy for upbeat Class of 2014 student Kara Rager. Kara knew she wanted a school that was renowned for its business programs and one with valuable connections in the local community. Growing up in the Capital Region, Kara was familiar with Siena and felt it could give her everything she was looking for.

Now a senior at Siena, Kara says of her Siena experience that it has exceeded her every expectation. When asked what her favorite class is she admits that it is hard to choose, but among those she has enjoyed the most is Managerial Accounting with Professor Brearey. Although Kara is an accounting major she has really enjoyed the opportunity to take classes in other disciplines and notes that English classes with Dr. Atskens are also among her favorites.

Kara has already been able to put the Siena network to use in securing an internship at Cool Insuring Agency. The internship experience, made possible through Siena’s strong network, has been an excellent opportunity for Kara to apply her classroom knowledge to practical experience.

Kara is an active member of the Siena community outside of the classroom. She is presently a member of the Accounting Students Association and has been a member of Habitat for Humanity since her first year at Siena. Kara says the biggest takeaway from her experiences with Habitat is getting to meet the families who she is helping.

Kara particularly values the highly personalized education at Siena and the opportunity to engage with Siena’s vibrant community. As a recipient of financial aid, Kara knows that she is a direct beneficiary of Annual Fund support. In reflecting on this she says, “I am grateful for financial assistance provided to me by donors to the College, and I feel fortunate to have all the opportunities that are provided for by the generosity of others.”

Siena is pleased to name Kara Rager as one of its first GOLD Scholars.
